Resend of our Tuesday publication.
Welcome to The Build Brief
This week is about where the actual work is going to come from.
ACSA just confirmed a R20 billion pipeline of new airport work headed to OR Tambo alone, with more coming to King Shaka in Durban.
Government’s next Construction Book, a live list of hundreds of billions of rand in funded, construction ready projects, drops next month at SIDSSA in Cape Town.
None of that helps you if you are not registered to actually bid for it.
So this week we are covering the paperwork nobody enjoys but everybody needs, plus a free tool that tells you the moment new tenders open.
Let’s get into it. 👇

Inside the sphere 🌏
Powering The Build Brief is Supply Sphere Solutions
Stock up on their new range of heavy duty wheelbarrows at the right price! 👇

Built to outwork anything else on site 🦾
When the job doesn't let up, your equipment can't either. This wheelbarrow is engineered for high-volume transport and industrial durability — built for crews who move soil, concrete, and aggregate all day, every day.
Reinforced Strength — A 0.8mm steel pan backed by a 5mm steel rim means this barrow shrugs off the knocks, scrapes, and overloading that wreck lesser models.
High Capacity — With a 65L volume, you're hauling more soil, concrete, and heavy aggregate per trip — fewer runs, faster jobs, better margins.
Structural Stability — A heavy-duty 1.8mm steel frame is engineered for industrial loads, so it holds its shape and stays true under weight that would buckle a standard barrow.
Precision Handling — A high-traction, heavy-duty wheel delivers smooth, all-terrain maneuverability — mud, rubble, or uneven ground, it tracks true and stays balanced.
Built for Use — An ergonomic design reduces fatigue, so your crew stays productive longer without the strain that slows down a long day's work.
This isn't a hardware-store barrow. It's built for construction and agricultural work that doesn't stop for anything less.

The Site Briefing 👷♂️
What's hot. What's moving. What you need to know.
There’s R20 billion in new airport work headed to OR Tambo alone ✈️
Airports Company South Africa has confirmed a pipeline of roughly R20 billion in new projects for OR Tambo International, running through to the end of 2031.
The centrepiece is the Midfield Cargo Complex, a new cargo terminal, warehousing, and logistics precinct built to grow the airport’s role as a major African logistics hub.
OR Tambo is currently running at about 75% of its design capacity, which is exactly why the work is coming.
King Shaka International in Durban is getting its own share too, an estimated R6 billion pipeline covering terminal expansion, a new fixed base operations facility for private aviation, and a fuel gas trigeneration plant, all benefiting from its location next to the Dube TradePort special economic zone.
This is the kind of pipeline that trickles down fast, civil works, electrical, mechanical, fit out, and logistics infrastructure, and everything in between.
Large contractors will win the headline packages, but the subcontracting opportunities that follow are exactly where small and mid sized operators tend to land the work.
Big pipeline. Real subcontracting opportunities. Keep your eyes on this one.

Government’s next construction pipeline drops next month 📋
The 3rd edition of the Construction Book lands at SIDSSA in August.
The Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa returns to Cape Town in August for its 5th edition, bringing together government ministers, mayors, and industry leaders from across the continent.
The headline release is the 3rd edition of the Construction Book, a live inventory of hundreds of billions of rand in funded, construction ready projects across national, provincial, and municipal government.
There is real money already moving. 20 projects are currently in project preparation worth an estimated R286 billion, and the Adopt a Municipality pilot has already identified 28 projects worth R7 billion across energy, water, and waste.
During the past financial year, 3 major transport projects on the N3 corridor in KwaZulu Natal, worth R6.77 billion, were completed.

The Construction Book exists specifically so contractors and suppliers can see what is coming before it hits tender stage. It is one of the clearest public signals of where government spending is actually headed.
The catch is that funded does not mean automatic. Every one of those projects still goes out to tender, and you need to be registered to bid before a single one of them opens.

Register on the CSD before you need it, not after 📝
The Central Supplier Database is National Treasury’s single register for anyone who wants to do business with government. It has been mandatory since 2016, and it applies to national, provincial, and municipal tenders alike.
Here is the part that catches people out. If you are not CSD registered, you are automatically disqualified from a tender, regardless of your price, your CIDB grading, or your B-BBEE score. No exceptions.

Registration is free. You will need your CIPC company registration, a SARS tax clearance, and your business bank account details.
Treasury verifies all of it electronically, so incomplete or mismatched details are the most common reason applications get rejected.
Do it now, while there is no deadline pressure, not the week a tender you actually want closes.
Funded projects are coming.
Make sure you are eligible to bid on them.

The Digital Toolbox 🛠️🤖
The free tool that tells you the moment a tender opens 🔔
The government’s official tender portal, etenders.gov.za, is the legal source of record, but it was not built for searching or alerts. Most contractors either miss opportunities entirely or find them days after they went live.
ProTenders sits on top of the official portal and does the watching for you. Set your keywords, province, and category once, and it emails you the moment a matching tender is published, pulling from national departments, municipalities, and state owned entities like Transnet and Eskom that do not always show up on the main portal.

It also gives you a workspace to save tenders, assign an owner, and get reminded before the closing date, so nothing slips through because someone forgot to check a website.
The free tier gets you one alert email a day, with your search filters built in.
No credit card required.

Wrapping up the site 👷🏾♂️
That’s about that for our 7th edition.
